Canton simply wouldn’t go away. In a game that the Nauset girls controlled for large stretches, the pesky Bulldogs kept pushing and secured a comeback 3-2 win. Both goalies were great throughout the game. In the first period Canton Sophomore Charlotte Eagles denied Nauset on numerous chances to keep the game scoreless.  The Nauset goaltender was equally good, turning away everything that she saw. After one period, neither team had been able to find the back of the net.

Early on in the second period the Warriors began to turn it on. And it was all thanks to Gabby Bassett, who decided it was time to put the team on her back. She opened the scoring three minutes in, with the assist coming from Violet Yingling. But Bassett wasn’t done there. The Warriors headed to the power play almost immediately after she potted her first.

The Warriors set up their attack in the offensive zone. Bassett retrieved the puck in the corner and glided up and through the left face-off circle. She then curled up into the top of the right circle and sniped a wrist shot into the left corner of the net. It was her second goal in just over two minutes. In the blink of an eye, Nauset was up 2-0 and looked to be in full control.

That feeling was short-lived. Seconds after Bassett’s goal, Canton forward Abby Stock got the Bulldogs on the board. It was a back-and-forth battle from there on out. Both goalies continued to play well, and it remained a 2-1 game heading into the third period. 2-1 quickly became 2-2 when the third started.

Then with just over 10 minutes remaining, Rori Sasin buried a rebound to make it 3-2. And just like that, Canton had battled all the way back from two down to take the lead. Now it was their turn to defend. The Warriors weren't ready to give up.

Outside of the the two quick goals in the second, Charlotte Eagles was a brick wall in net as Nauset peppered her with shots. The drama escalated in the final minutes. Looking to dial up a gameplan for the tying goal,  Nauset took a timeout with 2:15 remaining. Moments later, they would get the upper hand with a powerplay to close out the game.

The Warriors came close to tying several times, including on a Gabby Bassett shot that Eagles got a piece of with the glove. The buzzer sounded, and the comeback was complete. The Bulldogs went into a hostile environment at Charles Moore Arena and secured a massive win.  Nauset battled to the end and can certainly take positives out of a tough loss. They face Martha’s Vineyard at home on Sunday.
