Kettleers Stiffle Falmouth Offense in 8-2 Win

The sun shone down on the quaint village of Cotuit Wednesday night, creating a picturesque setting for a ballgame. 75°, not a cloud in the sky, and the Kettleers donning their iconic maroon pinstripes. Cape Cod summer at its finest. The boys on the field did their part for the 1,588 fans in attendance at Lowell Field with an impressive 8-2 Cotuit victory over the Falmouth Commodores (8-11). 

Starting pitcher Jonathan Adelmann led the way for the Ketts (6-12), tossing four scoreless innings and striking out six. For the first three innings, the Cotuit offensive did little to give Adelmann any kind of cushion. Falmouth pitcher Adam Urban’s control was an issue early on, as he loaded the bases on three straight walks in the first inning. However, he was able to escape the jam while keeping Cotuit hitless. Urban settled down and cruised through the second and third. Then the floodgates opened.

Cotuit’s offense finally woke up in the bottom of the fourth, with Aiden Aguayo ripping a single into right. Owen Paino’s grounder was good enough to keep the momentum going, as Commodores’ shortstop Ryder Woodson was unable to get his foot on the bag to complete the out at second.  A double steal put Ketts on second and third, and Ryan Tyranski’s walk loaded the bases once again. Jayce Lee got Cotuit on the board with a sacrifice fly to center field. Isaac Sturgess broke the game open, clearing the bases on a rip to right field that rolled all the way to the wall. Sturgess hit the ball hard all day. Earlier in the game, he lined a bullet directly into Urban's  glove. Noah Coy would add an RBI single to give Cotuit a 4-0 lead after four.
 

That would be all the runs the Kettleers would need, but they added on four more for good measure. Sturgess finished 2-4 with three RBIs. Coy continued his strong offensive play, adding two RBIs and bumping  his average up to .295 on the season. On account of Adelmann only pitching four innings, Boston College Junior Kyle Kipp picked up the win for Cotuit, improving to 1-2 on the year. 

Adam Urban took the loss for the Commodores. Despite the 8-2 defeat, Falmouth out-hit the Kettleers 9-8. But the only runs batted in came from Carter White and Adam Putty in the eighth. By then, it was far too late. 

Both teams are in action again tonight. Falmouth looks to bounce back against Hyannis at home. Cotuit looks to keep it rolling at Lowell Park against Harwich.

Dennis-Yarmouth Tops Nauset 7–5 in Thriller

Dennis-Yarmouth defeated Nauset 7–5 in a back-and-forth Cape Cod matchup that featured late drama and a key controversial call at the plate.

Nauset and Dennis-Yarmouth traded runs throughout, with neither team able to pull away early. The turning point came when DY’s Hudson Cambal delivered a clutch single that brought John Richard home to tie the game. The play at the plate was close and sparked controversy, but the run stood, shifting momentum in DY’s favor.

From there, RJ Delcourt took over in relief and was outstanding, shutting down the Nauset offense and giving Dennis-Yarmouth the stability it needed late. DY capitalized by adding key runs down the stretch to take control and secure the win, while Nauset was unable to respond in the final innings.
