HSSN: Tell me a little bit about yourself. You said you're a transfer student?

Andrew: Yeah, so I came from Old Rochester because Bourne had a program with Mass Maritime, which is my number one school for college. So basically the program allowed me to take my freshman year courses as a senior and then that would get transferred over, so I'd essentially skip my freshman year of college. And then with the 4+1 program they have there, I'd be able to get my masters a year earlier than expected. And that would set me a lot further ahead in life than if I stayed at Old Rochester and did that five years instead of doing that four years, if that makes sense. And then also, I mean, athletics was wasn't the biggest part, it was the academics, but it's always great to have a team to go back to.

HSSN: Yeah, absolutely man. In terms of the hockey, what position do you play?

Andrew: I play right defenseman.

HSSN: What would you say is the strength of your game?

Andrew: I'm a big yeller on the ice, so if I see something, I'll try to scream at you. It depends on if you hear me or not. I would say I'm pretty aggressive in general, like trying to get the puck out, trying to get the puck-keep it in the zone. So kind of going around trying to keep that puck in certain places,  trying to get plays set up I'm good at. I'm not really the best scorer, which, I mean, that's fine I'm a defenseman. I'm supposed to block shots, not score them. So I kind of leave that up to the guys that actually have hands and a shot, and I'm just there for backup if they need it.

HSSN:  Is there a player in the NHL or something that you like to model your game after? Or not really?

Andrew: Not really, to be honest. I kind of feel like if you're gonna model your game after something where they should be a hundred percent perfect and no one's gonna be a hundred percent perfect. So you kind of just do it your own way, you don't try to follow someone else's. Take your own way and be yourself.

HSSN: In terms of your team, Bourne, how far do you think you can go this year?

Andrew: I think if we figure things out, we can go pretty far in. I mean, we're hoping to win the S.EC. Anything else besides that is even better.  I definitely think that we had a rough start, beginning of the year. I mean, three losses in a row, that's never great. But I mean, we bounced back. Now our record is 3-4-1 I believe. Still not the best, but I mean, ranked 23rd I think for power rankings.

HSSN: So you put yourself back in it, basically?

Andrew: Yeah. Just gotta keep on grinding for that like 15th, 16th seed, get a really good playoff slot, have our first game here at home, and then take it from there. Go all the way if we can, the main goal is going to the garden.

HSSN: So what's the injury all about?

Andrew: So on December 4th, I got into a bad car crash coming to school. My whole entire rear end pretty much fell off. And my back was just all messed up. And then I went to the doctors, they said I had bad whiplash and a bunch of other stuff, but they said I should still be able to play hockey. I kept on playing and ever since then, it's been like a really bad shooting pain. So then my doctors told me, you might have a herniated disc or bulging disc. If it's a herniated disc, you're done for the rest of your life, you can't do this, because you will be paralyzed if you keep on playing with it.  So I just got a CT done and they said that, no, you're all good, it's most likely just muscular or nervous system.

HSSN So you haven't started playing again yet?

Andrew: No. I'm going to the doctor today to get cleared and then, I mean, probably gonna use some very strong Advil.

HSSN: Shoot me a message if you get cleared. I'd love to keep an update on your progress.

Andrew: Yeah I will.  I'm not expecting to get out like how I was last time- out there first line, out there every other shift. Just coming back from injury, you can't expect what you had before. You gotta take everything for granted, one step at a time.
