For a long time, it felt like Barnstable wouldn’t be able to solve Plymouth North goalie Trevor Golden.
Golden stonewalled everything that came his way, and after North took the lead on an early power play goal, the pressure started to ramp up.
Almost midway through the game, the 2-9 Eagles were up one against the 11-4-1 Red Hawks. Then a gritty goal changed they entire complexion of the contest. As a Plymouth North alumni it pains me to say this, but Barnstable showed they were the better team in a dominant 6-1 victory.
The first goal was scored by Luke LaCouture. He crashed the net when the puck appeared to be covered up. The frozen biscuit then spawned behind Golden after LaCouture’s stick hit the him. The puck then squeaked past the goal line. The floodgates opened, and it was all Barnstable from there.
The number one star of the game was undoubtedly Josh Dibble, who netted his first career hat trick. He gave the Red Hawks the lead in the second on a gorgeous snipe from the slot. Going into the third, Barnstable had taken full control of the game with a 3-1 lead.
Cole Butler added a goal off a stellar assist from LaCouture, who sped down the left side of the ice and whipped a tape-to-tape pass to Butler, who roofed a beauty past Golden.
Max Clark would add a goal, and the rout was on. Barnstable woke up in the second and cruised past a a struggling Plymouth North squad 6-1.
Goalie Bob Doherty was fantastic in net, turning away 23 of 24 shots in the win. Now all eyes move to Saturday night, when the Red Hawks hosts Nauset in Hyannis.
